LEAVER The Holly Leaf (1936)

Miss E. M. Jones - Left on 20th. May 1936

After the Assembly on May 20th we said goodbye to Miss Jones, who was leaving us after sixteen years' whole-hearted service to the school to marry Mr. Talbot Waite, an old Student.

On behalf of the students, Ruby Thompson (Head Girl) presented her with a cream and green Dinner Service of fifty-seven pieces "one piece for each year of happiness."  A Dinner-Waggon and Cut Glass Cruet were also included in the gift.

Then Mr. Goodfellow made the Holly Guild presentation, a Parker Knoll Chair.

The Staff's gift was a Walnut China Cabinet, which was given to Miss Jones in the Principal's room.  This was not an occasion for long speeches.  Mr. Northeast, Mr. Goodfellow and Mr. Head sensed the feelings of the recipient and her friends, when in a few very suitably expressed words they asked "our" Miss Jones to accept our gifts as constant reminders of the love and admiration we have for her.

Miss Jones was married at Grimesthorpe Methodist Church, Hunsley Street on Whit-Saturday afternoon.  The two hymns "The Voice That Breathed O'er Eden" and "Crown With Thy Benediction," had been beautifully cyclostyled by Miss Taylor.  Mr. Jack Bramhall, an old Centre student was best man.  Many of us who would otherwise have been present at the church were away on holiday, but the following members of the Staff were there:- Misses Paddison, J. E. Mitchell, and Whitehurst.
